11–12 Year Old Major β€œLittle League” Softball πŸ₯Ž

Major Softball is designed for experienced players ready for a higher level of competition while continuing to build strong fundamentals and teamwork.


SEASON

Spring Season: Early March through early June
Fall Season: Early September through early November


GAMES

  • Minimum of 10–12 regular season games (Fall season: 6–8 games)

  • Weeknight games typically begin between 7:30 PM – 8:00 PM

  • Saturday games generally scheduled between 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

  • Game length: No new inning after 1 hour 30 minutes

  • End-of-season playoff tournament

  • Interleague play against other district leagues (home and away)

  • Sunday afternoons/evenings (after 1:00 PM) may be used for makeup games


PRACTICE

  • One weekday and one weekend practice for 3–4 weeks prior to the season

  • Additional practices may occur during the season


UNIFORMS & PLAYING EQUIPMENT

Required:

  • Glove

  • Helmet

  • Bat

Included in registration:

  • Team uniform

Highly Recommended:

  • Rubber cleats

  • Fielding mask


TEAM STRUCTURE

Teams typically include:

  • 12–15 players

  • 1 volunteer manager

  • 2 volunteer coaches

  • 1 volunteer team parent


Major Softball FAQs

Q: Do you keep score and are there umpires?

A: Yes. Managers maintain a scorebook. League standings are kept to determine a regular season winner and playoff seeding. A home plate umpire is provided.


Q: What size field do they play on?

A: Games are played on a regulation Little League field with:

  • Bases set at 60 feet

  • Pitching distance of 40 feet


Q: Can my player play on a team with their friends?

A: Not automatically.
Players participate in a skills assessment, followed by a draft.


Q: Can I manage or coach a team?

A: Yes, if positions are available.

  • Prospective managers must complete a Chesterfield County Background Check.

  • Coaching interest should be indicated during spring registration.

  • All managers and coaches must be approved by Chesterfield Little League Board of Directors.


Q: Will my player play every inning?

A: Not every inning, but no player will sit twice until all players have sat once.


Q: What are the volunteer requirements?

A: Chesterfield Little League is an all-volunteer organization. Opportunities include:

  • Registration support

  • Team parent roles

  • Picture Day and Opening Day assistance

  • Post-season tournament help

  • Concession stand coverage

Volunteer support helps keep the league running strong and successful.
